The name come from the fact that this municipal land is situated on the top of the Valls d´Àneu. Its capital is the beautiful village of València d´Àneu,which is easy accessible by the road just after Esterri heading to the Port de la Bonaigua and Vall d'Arán. Its territoty has an extension of  193 Kms2 and last census showed there's still 375 inhabitants.  The vegetation is typical of the zone, emphasizing in the impressive forest of  Mata de València, and the one in Bonabé where those who love skiing can practise long races. It is very easy to accede to France by the region of  Occitania, the passes of Salau and Aulà, commonly in summer time.  As the romanic heritage is concerned,it is deserved to be mentioned " Sant d´Isil Joan, Sant Just Pastor, Sant Llorens d´Isavarre, Sant Andreu de València and San Lliser d´Alós. " Alt d'Aneu belongs to the County Council (or Local Court) of Tremp,in the Pallars Jussà.
