Esterri d´Àneu is one of the most emblematic and surprising villages of the Pyrenees, and a superb start out point for all type of activities, like trekking and hiking. Its altitude is more or less 850 mts. It has a reduced territory, only 8. 5 Kms2, and counts of 615 inhabitants at the present time. It is divided by the river Noguera Pallaresa being united as the same time by a magnificent Romanesque double arch bridge. It has an historical archive of the Valls d'Àneu, and it is deserved to be mentioned the "Casa Gassia", a typical house that defines how the people lived there. Now,development and growth of tourism and the easy access thanks to the proximity to the Skiing resorts, helped its economy to grow. It is easy to get there in a regular bus line by the Road C-13 from La Pobla de Segur, where is possible to arrive also by train. It is in the beginning of the ascent to the Port de la Bonaigua and later on entrance to the Arán Valley (Vall d'Aran). It belongs to the Local Court of Tremp,but to the region of El Pallars Sobirà. |

The traditional festivals are: San Vicente, its famous Tuesday of Carnival and the Great Fest celebrated within the first two weeks in August. The Fairs take place on the Passover and by San Joan, and the ones specialized about cattle,Santa Teresa and Santa Catherine.
