SANT ESTEVE DE LA SARGA

Sant Esteve de la Sarga

San Esteve de la Sarga has a municipal extent of  92 km2. and is 875 mts. above sea level. All together, the number of inhabitants is about 116.  Belongs to the region of El Pallars Jussà and to the Tremp Administrative Area.

It is easy to get to San Esteve de la Sarga by the C-13 road heading north from Lleida and getting the C-1311 just after Cellers.  This road brings us  to a very beatiful area, where many little villages are, like  L’Alzina, Castellnou del Montsec,  Moror, Alsamora, l’Agustina,  Estorm, La Clua, Beniure, La Torre d’Amargós and finally San esteve, where there is the municipal administration. Its economy is based more than  50%  of  agriculture and cattle raising.

L’ALZINA

Beautiful to see is “ El Congost de Terradets”, and passing by we can easily get the C-1311 as we see the sign to the left, which brings us till  Guardia de Noguera. Later  on we find Moror and l’Alzina,  in the right side of the road and just before to reach San Esteve de la Sarga.

The little village is situated to the north of Montsec d’Ares,  just in the hills “El Sastret”, sunny spot nearby  the river Noguera Pallaresa and situated to 958 mts. above the sea level.  Its romanic church is dedicated to Santa Creu.  As we know, all theses areas are poorly inhabitated, and this village is not the exception: 90 inhabitants in 1960, 44 in 1981 and 20 nowadays.
