Sort - General image

    Sort has added 14 populated areas:
Altrón, La Bastida, Bernui, Bressui, Castellviny, Enviny, Llarvén, Llessui,
Montadit de Baix, Montardit de Dalt, Olp, Pujalt, Seuri and Sorre.

  Sort is also the capital of the Pallars Sobirà,and has at the moment 1,421 inhabitants who added to the other areas is 1,852 total,50% of men and the same percentage of women.Sort is located to 700 mts up the sea level,and is divided by its half by the Riu Noguera Pallaresa and it is easily accesible by the C-260 Road,from La Pobla de Segur which is 27 km away from Sort. It is located on the center of a depression called Ribera de Sort, and its municipal land or District is extended from El Pic de L´Orri (2,439 mts) until the massif of El Montseny de Pallars (2,883 mts). Every Tuesday is celebrated its weekly market.

In the last years its tourism,thanks to the so-called adventure sports has rapidly grown,and the fate wanted that Sort won twice the National Lottery which made this small city a popular one,and even more because of its name,which in Spanish means "Luck ".

The Great Fest is celebrated the first Sunday on August and the traditional dances are shown around,the so-called "Rigolons". Forty days before El "Diumenge de Rams " (The Holy Sunday) the Carnival has a special meaning in Sort. Important people also come from Sort,for example the general Jose Moragues,Illustrious Son of the villa who has a monument from 1.985.It is also important the Castle of the Counts of the Pallars ( Els Comtes dels Pallars ) located in the Old Center of the villa which was the residence of the Counts and has a lot to do with the denomination of the Region.
