Tremp
has around 5,500 inhabitants.It is the Capital of El
Pallars Jussà. It is located between two reservoirs,the first
one San Antoni,to the north and the second one Cellers to the
south. Its economy is based mainly on the commerce,
agriculture and cattle ranches.
The Spring Fair or Trade Fair is celebrated
the day of San Bonifacio, the 14th of May.The Great festivity,
named La Festa Major,the day of La Verge de Valldeflors,the 8th
of September.These are the more popular festivals. Its local
products such as cold cured meat and wine,are very appreciated
for its quality.La Basilica, constructed around the year 1,040
in honor to La Verge de Valldeflors contains two
altarpieces of a great beauty and of recognized historical and
stylistic value.
To get to Tremp is very easy,just needed to drive
the Road C-14 from Lleida and take the left (C-13) after
surrounding Balaguer.The narrow Road
C-13 is the so-called Carretera del Doll and is about 56 Km to
Tremp.
Tremp is situated at 468 Mts of altitude,with a
extention of 302Km2 and depends on its own County Council (Local
Court).At the present time it has 28 municipalities,including
the Capital.It is important too to point out the incorporation
in its municipality of the Basic Suboficials General Academy in
the year 1975.(Before it was a Instruction Military Camp of
recruitements
denominated " General Pablo Martín Alonso"). That
produced a radical effect on the economy of those years,since
quickly became from that economic incomes considered in that
moment non-typical in all the Pallars,which effects were rapidly
noticed in all the surrounding area.
